Will India’s Population Reach 2 Billion?

On Oct. 17, 2007 Carl Haub, Population Reference Bureau's senior demographer, conducted an online discussion focusing on India's population, which reached 1 billion in 2000. Will lower fertility rates have a significant impact on India reaching 2 billion? The total, rural and urban population of India includes the estimated total, rural and urban population of entire Kachchh district, Morvi, Maliya-Miyana and Wankaner taluks of Rajkot district, Jodiya taluka of Jamnagar district of Gujarat state and estimated total and rural population of entire Kinnaur district of Himanchal Pradesh where population enumeration of Census of India, 2001 could not be conducted due to natural calamities.
     
  2. The figures of total, rural and urban population of Himachal Pradesh state have been arrived at after including the estimated total and rural population of entire Kinnaur district where population enumeration of Census of India, 2001 could not be conducted due to natural calamity.
